A sea of hearts for IDAHO

A sea of hearts for IDAHO

International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day is Sunday, May 20. To commemorate this, ACON Illawarra will hold a name-reading ceremony at the Wollongong Botanic Gardens (in the rose garden), 11.30am-12.30pm. RSVP to 02 4226 1163.

Memorials are taking place around the state. Visit ACON’s website and regional Facebook pages for more info.

Wollongong Mall will witness a flood of love on Thursday, May 17 as shoppers help grow a ‘Sea of Hearts’ to come out against homophobia and transphobia for IDAHO 2012. The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) is here again and it’s bigger and better than ever.

Events and campaigns are being coordinated online, through community groups and by individuals to raise awareness and take action against homophobia.

Visit the fabulous new IDAHO NSW website at http://idaho-nsw.com and Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IdahoNSW which will provide web portals for IDAHO NSW for the first time ever.

Show support and advocate for your community by joining the many events and activities happening around NSW as people stand up against the discrimination and violence that still plague our public and private spaces.

ACON Illawarra’s Sea of Hearts for IDAHO will be at Wollongong Mall from 11am. You can find out what’s happening and get involved locally by contacting your local ACON office or freecall 1800 063 060.

To fill out the rest of what is already a huge week, National Volunteer Week runs May 14 – 20, with the theme of ‘Volunteers – Every One Counts’.

ACON would like to take this opportunity to thank the army of volunteers that make our work possible, and encourage people to not only consider volunteering, but to take some time to reflect and recognise the often unsung heroes within our communities who give their efforts, skills and time to make the lives of others better.

If you are interested in volunteering in the Southern region, please contact the Illawarra office on 02 4226 1163.
