Fighting back with the help of volunteers

Fighting back with the help of volunteers

It’s been more than five months since the defunding of Healthy Communities was announced, and our volunteers are kicking ass. People volunteer for Healthy Communities because of their passion for our cause which is to improve the health and wellbeing of LGBT Queenslanders.

For Brisbane Pride Fair Day we had more than 95 people volunteer approximately 700 hours across the weekend. We had volunteers performing on stage, staffing information stalls and setting up and packing down the biggest tent on the day.

Healthy Communities’ continuing presence in the community and our ability to do effective health promotion can best be met through outreach at LGBT events.

We are launching a new Men 4 Men Outreach team; our aim is to go to venues and events to engage with community, putting sexual health information into people’s hands.

We are holding an HIV/Outreach Training Session on Wednesday, October 31 from 6pm-8.30pm. For anyone interested in updating outreach skills and knowledge of HIV and sexual health contact (07) 3017 1777 for more information.
