ACON Northern Rivers recently welcomed Tobin Saunders to our team. Some of you may have met his alter ego Vanessa Wagner.

Tobin has taken on the role of Community Health Promotions Officer. If you have ideas for community events or health promotion activities, Tobin is the person to contact.

ACON is proud to participate in National Aboriginal Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) celebrations. Lismore’s NAIDOC event will be held at Heritage Park on Thursday, July 1. Come along to support local Indigenous people.

Full Moon by the Sea, a women’s-only event, will be held at Yamba’s Surf Life Saving Club from 6pm, Saturday, July 24. Tickets cost $15 and include fab food, entertainment and music. Get groovy and meet other women from your community. Email [email protected] for more info.

The ‘Gay Men’s Living with HIV Retreat’ is proving popular. Participants’ reflections on the retreat will be shared in the next issue of Talkabout. Grab a copy from the ACON office.

Have you been watching Glee and found yourself wanting to sing, sing, sing? Then attend Tropical Fruits’ Glee Choir Club. Open to anyone regardless of ability, the first meeting was on June 20 at the Fruit Bowl. Cost to participate is $12 or $7 concession.

On August 29, Tropical Fruits will host Froutopia, a totally queer fair day. I have heard whispers of a dog show, a bake-off, fanciful stalls, local produce and entertainment all being part of this day. For more information or if you would like to help out, call Tropical Fruits on 6622 6440.
