Gay Games provides for fans

Mountain hikes, city tours, even a lecture on gay penguins: Cologne is rolling out the red carpet for fans and friends of the 10,000 athletes and artists participating in the 2010 Gay Games next year.
Gay Games Cologne has launched a new ‘Fans and Friends’ program providing fitness, social, cultural and outdoor activities for fans and friends of participants coming to Cologne for the Gay Games, running from July 31 to August 7.
Highlights of the still-growing roster of events include a guided Jewish Cologne walking tour offered in German, English and Hebrew, a motorcycle riding tour of the nearby Bergisches Land mountain region, a walking tour of historical gay Cologne, a hike past medieval castles in the Siebengebirge mountains near Bonn, and an educational visit to the Cologne Zoo with a lecture on homosexuality in the animal kingdom.
Fans and friends who don’t want to interrupt their usual fitness regime during the trip can reserve a spot with some of Cologne’s top athletic trainers while in the city. More than 15 events have already been scheduled and can be booked online now, with fees from eight euros per person.
All events are offered in both German and English (and sometimes other languages), and online information explains which are accessible for those in wheelchairs.
While the events are designed for fans and friends, Gay Games participants are welcome if their competition or participation schedule permits. A portion of the ticket price for each event goes toward the Cologne 2010 Outreach Program, funding participation by Eastern Europeans coming to the Games.
