MISS Mardi Gras Fair Day 1993 is back and ready to host the party of the year at the Vivid Sydney festival.

Australia’s sweetheart, Vanessa Wagner, is following on from last year’s successful Cosy Nook party to bring Vivid punters somewhere to let their hair down on a Saturday by providing an eclectic day of music, comedy, video art and retina smashing outfits.

Wagner spoke to Star Observer about what people can expect from her Cosy Nook party and exactly what she’s been up to lately.

What exactly is this Cosy Nook party?
It’s essentially an encore from last year’s Vivid Sydney event where Tobin chucked his highly successful Cosy Nook. We all need a cosy nook to let our hair down, have a chat and a dance in a sophisticated yet chilled out environment.

It doesn’t take much to inspire me and currently it’s to see Sydney thrive as a social and cultural capital.

What can audiences expect?
A tea dance really in a gorgeous venue with lovely outdoor milling garden, a banqueted necking nook, a wooden dance floor and a classic deco front bar… lit with a queer nod to Vivid.

I’ll be DJing my eclectic cocktail and soul music form 3pm til 6pm then Ben Drayton will take people on a sexy journey of elegant and funky music through ’til midnight.

I’ll be wearing several retina shattering outfits and expect a crazy interpretive performance at around 8pm. I will also be performing one of my infamous on stage stand up observational comedy vents.

What is your elevator pitch for people to come to this show?
Mmmm, elevator pitch…how urban! A cultural, sophisticated and utterly chic afternoon and evening with a really unique and lovely mixed crowd.

Oh, and a good chance to dress up or down, dance and grab an affordable drink.

What does it mean as an entertainer to be performing at Vivid?
It’s an honour really as Vivid Sydney is such a great concept and a beautiful festival.

I’ve always thought one can never have enough clashing tones and colour in the world, it feels like a total fit for Vanessa’s aesthetic!

For me art and culture are what makes life worthwhile, and it nourishes ones mental health. I’d rather pop a does of lights than an SSRI any day.

What other parts of the festival will you be checking out?
I’ll try and drag my carcass to as many events as possible, I love it all!

I want to find a drone outfit so I can hover over the huge harbourside crowds and watch from a comfortable space (without getting in the way of the projections of course).

Maybe I can chat with Ignatius Jones about becoming the resident Vivid mother moth mascot.

What have you been up to lately?
I tend to spend a lot of time thinking up impossibly complex political art installations from the safety of my East Ballina bunker.

Otherwise I’m travelling around the country hosting educational HIV events. I keep a low profile unless a choice opportunity arises.
