Kiss makes it real

Kiss makes it real

Imagine watching two women fall in love, talk about sex, partner for life, and then never seeing them kiss.
While this story was unfolding in at least 28 countries on TV and via YouTube, Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia were voted 2009’s Sexiest Couple Alive by both heterosexual and gay viewers internationally.

The realisation that the kiss was not going to happen on Guiding Light, which ended in September, hasn’t stopped Chappell from making it happen. She teamed up with her writing partner, Kim Turrisi, and a third producer, Hope Royaltey, and by pooling resources, actors and crew, and a loyal fan base, they produced their own web series, Venice the Series. In the first 30 seconds, you will see Chappell and Leccia kiss.

The setting is Venice Beach and the series focuses on family and friends. The lead character is played by Chappell, who recently returned to Days of Our Lives as Carly.

The first of the 12 six-minute episodes aired in Australia on December 5.

  1. As a long time fan of Crystal Chappell from her first stint on Days of Our Lives in the early nineties, i was extremely happy when i stumbled over Otalia on You Tube. I fell in love with Crystal Chappell all over again.
Crystal Chappell’s talent & enormous generosity kept me hooked for months like an addict checking you tube at 3am to get the newest ep of Otalia & then on Twitter. And then came Venice. Oh My God. the journey has been fantastic. Crystal & Kimmy kept us involved and updated all the way. seeing the first ep of Venice finally air made me cry as if it was MY show. i love Team Venice & my Venice friends and i ADORE Crystal Chappell & Kimmy. so worth waiting for & the U$9.99

  2. Hey scrap, how did you manage to get hold of the second ep? It’s still in the cutting room the last I saw. (release date is 18/12 in the US 19/12 here)

  3. Venice: The Series has delivered a wonderful sneak peek into the life of Crystal Chappell’s character Gina. The first episode delivered crisp scenery, snappy dialogue and immediate connection to the characters. Easily the best $11 I have spent all year. Can’t wait to see the remainder of the season unfold in what is an exciting new medium for drama.

  4. Hmmm, watched 2 eps and a tsr cos a chum asked me to. We have predicatble new age soapy minimalism with perfectly prepared actors. Not an eyebrow out of place and dialogue that seems to have been written at a writing class.

  5. I am so honored to be a small part of “Venice: The Series”, and I am loving every minute of this journey. I think it is so well-done – and Team Venice could not be more professional – or more warm and open. This exposure for my music has absolutely changed my life – I have been here in my living room for 2 full days with 2 other people signing and packing cds…over 400 orders now from across the world – THANK YOU, “VENICE”!

  6. This webseries has beautiful cinematography, fantastic dialogue and realistic characters. i’m hooked!!! i’ve paid my US$9.99. I can’t wait to see the next episode on Saturday 19th December!

  7. Watched the clip and thought it was really good! Beautifully shot and I think it could go a long way! Great characters – would be easy to get hooked on this!!

  8. Wonderful first ep. A new teaser is also up on YT at the venice the series channel. Be the first to know by following Crystal and Venice on Twitter @crystalchappel and @venicetheseries. You’ll be glad you did.

  9. I watched the premiere of Venice with my obsessed girlfriend and her equally obsessed friend. The excitement in the room generated enough electricity to supply a small town. The show was great and it gave the Otalia fans everything they wanted to see. But what it also did, was take another step (albeit small) towards bridging the gap between different communities. A fantastic achievment by Crystal, Kimmy & Hope. Am I obsessed now? You bet, but don’t tell my girlfriend. Jump on board now my fellow lesbians – you wont be disappointed!

  10. As a huge Otalia fan I was waiting with much excitement and antisipation for the first episode of Venice and was not in the least disapointed. Crystal, Kimmy & Hope have put so much love and hard work into this project and current fans of CC will not be disapointed and I believe many more new fans will join this exciting ride. I for one had no hesitation in handing over my $13 AUS knowing not only am I going to get a fantastic new show to watch but also behind the scene footage and plenty more. Thank you Crystal Chappell you are a Godess :-)

  11. What’s $9.99? Two trips to Starbucks or a couple bucks shy of a combo at your favorite fast food drive thru? Venice is worth the subscription! I’m supporting the freedom of artistic expression. It’s never been done quite like this in this format. If Venice has created the blue print for more creative independent story telling, I say go for it! (Slamming my 10 dollar bill down on the table.)

  12. You can watch the whole 1st Episode for free on either the website in the article, or on the venicetheseries youtube channel in HD … smokin intro EP.

But 9.99 US for the rest of the season. Tip money. I’m supporting. I expect more, and view this as a teaser/ introduce.

It should be said that, though Gina the lead is lesbian … this is not an all lesbian thing … The cast is full of hetero characters in Gina’s circle of family and in her employ – and it is more slice-of-life (with a heaping side of hot.)
