Tina Arena Announces Melbourne Residency, New Music AND A Doco To Celebrate 50 Years In Music
Tina Arena will spend August 2027 on stage in Melbourne, announcing a month-long Melbourne residency to celebrate 50 years in music.
The Aussie gay icon’s 5.0 Residency Tour will take over the new Crown Live, with tickets going on general sale on next week.
For those of us who consider singing Chains at karaoke (with wildly unjustified confidence) as a perfectly reasonable emotional outlet, this is wonderful news.
The announcement comes alongside the release of her new EP Way of the World, and the announcement of Tina Arena: Unravel Me, a documentary tracing her life on stage and away from it.
It’s a busy anniversary for the singer, whose Australian television debut on Young Talent Time in 1976 began a career that has since produced 25 albums and sold more than 10 million records worldwide.
Half a century gives her plenty of material for a retrospective – across the month, Arena will revisit different chapters of her catalogue, including songs rarely performed live, deeper cuts and the big, emotionally extravagant favourites.
Think Sorrento Moon (I Remember), Wasn’t It Good, Heaven Help My Heart, Burn and Symphony of Life.
Created specifically for Crown Live, 5.0 will be the first residency of its kind at the venue, bringing Arena back to her hometown for the anniversary celebrations.
Her new EP, meanwhile, features a range of covers. Way of the World includes New Order’s True Faith, Depeche Mode’s Enjoy the Silence, Duran Duran’s Ordinary World and the title track by Max Q. Ada Mori’s Torno Bambina and Frank Ocean’s Cayendo complete the six-track collection.
Tina Arena documentary is out this weekend
There’s even more Tina news, too – she’s has announced a documentary about her will be coming out this weekend. (p.s. By the way, the move of dropping bombshell shell info, new music, AND a biographical documentary at the same time is henceforth referred to as ‘pulling a Minogue’).
Unravel Me premieres on Channel Seven this Sunday (18 October), and will reportedly explore the industry rejection Arena has faced, as well as her international success and personal upheaval behind her huge career.
Wonnarua filmmaker Adrian Russell Wills, whose credits include Black Divaz, directs the documentary, with Mark Fennessy as executive producer and Jessica Carrera as writer and producer.
A little Sunday-night treat before the serious business of securing residency tickets, then! Thanks, diva.
Presales open at 10am AEDT on Tuesday 20 October. General sales open at 11am AEDT on Wednesday 21 October via tinaarena.com.
