Fundamentalist Christian warning

Fundamentalist Christian warning

Former NSW Christian Democrat MLC and Family First NSW leader Dr Gordon Moyes has warned that Christian fundamentalists who want to impose religious laws on society are operating in Australia.

“Dominionism is a new cult, started in USA, but today is present in Australia,” Moyes warned in a recent newsletter.

“Dominionism is not a new denomination. Rather [it is] an interrelated mindset followed by some members of a wide range of extreme fundamentalist and some Pentecostal Protestants.

“Dominionism is a term used to describe the tendency among some politically active conservative Christians to seek influence or control over secular civil government through political action, with the goal of a nation governed by a conservative Christian understanding of Old Testament law. Their aim is to control ‘the seven mountains’ — the peak bodies of business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, family and religion.

“They take a fundamentalist attitude to many issues and oppose evolution, changing moral standards, university agendas, all other religions, opposing all schools not run by Christians, traditional cultural practices, abortion, homosexuality, the teaching of palaeontology on the dating of the earth, all philosophy, psychology and psychiatry, the United Nations [and] scientific beliefs on climate change.

“Dominionism is a doctrine which demands the total remaking of society to conform with the laws of the Old Testament, and it states that the second coming of Jesus Christ will never occur until ‘God’s kingdom’ is established on earth for a thousand years.”

Moyes warned that there were already around six small organisations in Australia pushing a dominionist agenda.

Moyes wrote that The Sydney Morning Herald had recently run an article in which the three leading dominionists in Australia were named, “none of whom has graduate theological training in Biblical studies but are a retired soldier, an elderly politician and a country dentist”.

“Another is a Melbourne-based self-anointed ‘Apostle’,” Moyes wrote.

The Star Observer understands that the Melbourne-based leader is Pastor Danny Nalliah of Catch the Fire Ministries, while the three named in the SMH are Australian Christian Lobby managing director Jim Wallace, the Reverend Fred Nile and the National Alliance of Christian Leaders convenor Graham McLennan.

  1. Hey its the first SSO article that dosen’t use the UNSCIENTIFIC definition ‘GAY” wonders never cease.now can anyone tell me if we correctly despise religion and god nutty people as dangerous Taliban types ,then why fight for equaility of religious OPPRESSION called MARRIAGE?

    anyone?:

P.s its good to see the scientific and culturally correct definition HOMOSEXUAL for a change ,Horay see you can be mature scientific secular humans UNITED .

  2. Does Gordon Moyes really know what a Christian fundamentalist is?
He implies that fundamentalists are dominionists.
Christ was a fundamentalist because he BELIEVED the Scriptures.
But Christ was not a dominionist; the zealots were dominionists.
What right do you have Gordon Moyes to stand in judgement when you still have a log in your own eye?
Yes, you know that I write the truth. The reason you do not believe the Scriptures is because of your secret sins. You can hide them from man but not from God or His Word. Do you not know that God does not show unrepentant sinners the truth of His Word?
For you are a man of unclean lips.
You have been given no authority to make a righteous judgement.
A righteous judgement can only be made when we have inherited righteousness.
Christ spoke of people like you when he said, “Woe to you Pharisees, you travel across land and sea to win a single convert and when you do you make them twice the son of hell that you are”.
“You yourself do not enter and you shut the door in the faces of those who are trying”.
The apostle Paul prophesied about deceivers like you when he said, “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear..”
Dress in sackcloth, wash your mouth out with soap and repent.

  3. the truth about the christian god, father, son and spirit, is contained in the scriptures for all to read.if you don’t have love,
you don’t know jesus.you should also teach sound doctrine – what the
whole bible teaches.whilst i support some of the policies of both the
cdp and family first, i think it’s time for another christian political
party – one that doesn’t support cults like the excusive brethren!

  4. Wow… how refreshing… gives me hope for Australia’s future.

As one who is a citizen of both Australia and America, I can tell you that you, in Australia, do NOT want to have to deal with an entrenched Dominionist camp. It is UGLY, and once they gain power, they do not give it up, nor do they care whom they abuse to retain it. The Christian Taliban (as I call them) in America are fierce yet subtle. There is a quiet struggle going on in many communities between those of us who truly believe in freedom of religion and separation of church from state, and those who pretend to hold those values but actually mean that you’re only free to worship the same way they do, and wish to control the actions of everyone in the nation, all in the name of God.

I’d also like to point out that not all Christians are dominionists, or even small-minded idiots. There are many who think that religion has no place in politics and are perfectly happy to “love your neighbor” no matter whether your neighbor is straight, gay, bisexual, transsexual, asexual, Atheist, Muslim, Hermetic Re-constructionist, or Catholic.

  5. “Moyes wrote that The Sydney Morning Herald had recently run an article in which the three leading dominionists in Australia were named”

Anyone know where this SMH article can be found?

  6. The enemies of my enemies are my friends. I support Dr Gordon Moyes wholeheartedly in this endeavor as there is NO place for bigotry within Secular Australia.

  7. Dominionists are ultimately the people that are guiding Access Ministries and the school chaplaincy and SRE programs in our schools nationally. They know better than to make themselves too visible. They are also insinuating themselves at every opportunity in government where education policy can be influenced – such as Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). And with populist ministers like Peter Garrett, who have zero interest in responsible oversight, their job is way too easy.

  8. Knew all of those named! It is good when they talk their hatreds because it strengthens our secular society. Fortunately, a large majority of Austrlians are not ‘into’ religion and view religious extremists for what they are!

  9. The biggest problem of all is that religious fundamentalists (or all religious pursuasions) are breeding much faster than the secular world. Within a few decades they will be the majority secular Australians will be the minority. Not a good outcome when we live in a democracy as it will be all too easy for our rights to be rolled back.

It is our duty to make sure we have as many children as possible to counteract this. There’s a reason why those fundamentalists are against abortion, homosexuality, masturbation and contraception – they all lead to a lower birth rate. And they know that they need to have a many children as possible in order to have their way in the world.

  10. Has Dr Moyes experienced his own awakening? It was not that long ago that as a member of the CDP he sat with Fred Nile in the NSW upper house and later when he moved to the FF he belonged to same party, albeit in a different state, that put Danny Nalliah up as a candidate for a Victorian senate seat.

If he has, good. But I’ll hold off the singing and dancing for a little while yet.

  11. Belief unsupported by proportionate evidence corrupts our search for truth and morality. We need to be rid of it all before the world gets plunged into another war.

  12. I have faith that humanity will wake up to itself sooner or later. These nut-jobs can try their hardest but us rational people can only put up with so much before we defend ourselves. Religion fux Brainz.

  13. yes, he’s right look at all the Catholics that are federal ministers in the federal government; now the pope threatened them to vote opposing homosexual law (ie. marriage)… I don’t want gay marriage to be a parliamentary conscience vote… then you have the Brethren and the Exclusive Brethren… they’re like Mafia with their secrecy and usually with secrecy comes weirdness…
