Good sports

A perfect result requires ingredients of the highest quality. French pastry is judged by the butter that is used in its making, desserts are distinguished by the quality and freshness of the fruit purchased. To put together a multi-sports event is really very similar to the creation of a Royal Fruit Cake. Firstly many clubs have many members, with their own views and opinions. It is always nice to know that our sportsmen and women are real quality: genuine, forthright, and down-to-earth.

Different ingredients have to be treated differently: a brandy marinade is surely the most effective remedy for committee disagreements. For the marinade to truly work, it should be left overnight at least. However, doing the same to the nuts ruins their special input to our creation. Dancers would look and feel ridiculous on the soccer field, and our rugby players are not known for their poise and balance. Some sportspeople are not good with balls, and it is very difficult to build superbly strong athletes without compromising flexibility. Badminton and table tennis never work outdoors, while running events are difficult to set up indoors. Swimmers and bowlers require highly specialised venues.

To make a great Sports Day OUT, Team Sydney uses a well-tried method. Give a few people the task, get a great venue and fill it with the ingredients -“ lots of men and women, balls and bats, nets and courts, colours and music. Yes, it sounds like a drag queen’s dressing room.

To complete the project, a little baking sun is required, so we recommend you are well protected by sunscreens, hats and long sleeves. Over the course of the day, do take time to visit the stalls of our sponsors and organisations that have our community at heart.

Sports Day OUT is very informal, and food is provided by member clubs as a fundraising venture for their clubs.

info: Sports Day OUT is Team Sydney’s spring showcase of events and clubs, supported by the City of Sydney, ACON and SSO. Maybe it is time you picnicked with a purpose on 12 October. To ensure you don’t miss a thing, visit the Sports Day OUT on our website: www.teamsydney.org.au.
