Jeffree Star goes mainstrem
Jeffree Star is preparing to leap from the underground to the top of the charts with a new album put together under the watchful eye of Akon.
The gender-bending pop star has long been a hit with gay audiences but his outrageous costumes and confronting lyrics (see clip below) have been too much for the mainstream.
It’s a situation Jeffree is hoping to change with a little help from one of urban music’s biggest names.
“Akon and his team are managing my whole career now,” Star told OC Weekly.
“I think it’s a good step forward for the gay movement that someone like Akon, who’s sold 10 million records and sells out arenas, will work with someone like me. It’s a very macho world.”
In addition to Akon, Jeffree has also lined up studio time with superstar producers like RedOne, Dr Luke and David Guetta.
There’s even a duet with Ke$ha in the works!
Could Jeffree Star be the next Adam Lambert?
