Local rights lobby turns 15

The Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (VGLRL) marks its 15th anniversary this year and is throwing a birthday bash this month. Kitty Bang will host the fundraising event with performers and DJs Jazzy Gay Gays, Godzilla Jones, Pigeon Life, Tokko Tokko, Hissy Loco, Two Buck Chuck and the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus.

The VGLRL was established in 1997 and has been a major player in the gay rights movement in Victoria ever since.

Recently the VGLRL was involved with the No To Homophobia campaign which received overwhelming support from the community, and its television commercials were aired at the AFL preliminary finals.

The lobby is currently focussed on same-sex adoption, anti-discrimination laws, a peak LGBTI body for Victoria and workplace discrimination.

The End of Year bash is held on Saturday, November 24 from 8pm at the Bella Union Bar, Trades Hall, Carlton.
