Dream queen

Last Saturday night saw the opening of the new Dream Queen show at the Midnight Shift, starring Amelia, Minnie, Joyce, Ashley, Alex (new girl on the block, replacing recent retiree Marcus) and my favorite Marcello. Okay, I have to admit, I did spend most of my time during the show screaming like a crazy woman, I love you, Marcello, and Be my wife, Marcello.

Not sure what came over me, but I guess love has that effect on some people -“ love and numerous shandies from the bar. But once again Amelia and the girls have done the right thing by their audience and put all the boys in micro costumes. I love you, Marcello.

I’m not sure who was playing which role from the movie though. Straight away I thought Joyce should be playing the Beyonc?ole, just because of the beauty factor, though I’m a little confused whether Amelia or Minnie was to play the frumpy Jennifer character as they are both so thin they need to stand together to get a whole person sometimes. Bloody skinny bitches!

Fabulous costumes and music, and even sexier boys, Dream Queen is a great way to spend a Saturday night. The first show starts at 1:30am and, trust me, these girls are on time so don’t be tardy. If you do get there early, pop downstairs to watch my show.

As you can guess, Dream Queen is a tribute to the brand new movie that has hit the screens, Dreamgirls. I’m sure I don’t have to ask any showgirls out there if they have seen the movie yet.

I was like thousands of showgirls around the world who rushed out, secretly hoping that this new girl could not out-sing the legend herself, Jennifer Holiday, but secretly wishing she would.

I have to tell all those who haven’t seen it yet, that girl can sing. After she finished her version of And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going the cinema erupted into applause so loud that my two friends, who are not into musicals, turned to ask why was everyone clapping. I couldn’t answer them as I was deeply into a heart clap and hoot-fest. Wow, I laughed, I cried, and I ate $45 worth of mixed Choose Your Own lollies. I can’t wait for the DVD so I can watch it to death and copy all the outfits.

EYESPY It was a weekend of openings. I started the first week of Queereoke at Mr Mary’s. To my surprise the night was filled with fabulous singers -“ well, almost the whole night. You too can start to sing up a storm from 7:30pm every Friday night till 10:30pm. Fabulous DJ Shanobear is behind the turntables and will be playing all through the night.
