Sleaze future debate next week

New Mardi Gras’ (NMG) community forum will be held at Heffron Hall next Saturday, October 23.

The forum, announced just prior to Sleaze Ball, will give community members the opportunity to discuss the future fundraising strategies needed to produce the Mardi Gras Parade and season.

The future of Sleaze, the yet-to-be-staged Hallowe’en party and Mardi Gras Party will also be up for discussion, as will new opportunities with Parade, Fair Day and other activities that could support Mardi Gras in the coming years.

The forum was announced several weeks ago, to consider the viability of Sleaze as the major out-of-season fundraiser after declining performance over recent years.

NMG CEO Michael Rolik said the floor would be open to community and membership ideas, fundraising and feedback on the options New Mardi Gras is considering.

“Fundraising events are what fund the Parade and Mardi Gras season, and we’re glad we can consult with the community about these important issues and future directions,” Rolik said in a statement release late Friday afternoon.

Co-chair Perter Urmson encouraged the community to get involved.

“There are some decisions to be made but we hope to investigate some fresh and creative ideas with our community and membership on Saturday. Everyone is encouraged to join us for a constructive and informative morning,” he said.

info: The Member and Community forum begins at 10.30am Saturday October 23 at Heffron Hall, cnr Burton and Palmer St, Darlinghurst

  1. Maybe a simple poll sent out via facebook to all NMG followers would clear up any bold decisions about venues and ideas, regarding what is right and what is wrong for the setup of these events. Clearly this years idea to have the Mardigraz party a week after the parade was a stupid idea. A simple poll would have told you people didn’t want that. its about time you listen to what people really want, not just a few committee members ideas on what will work. You have one shot each year to get these events right. Lets not see a repeat of bad mismanagement like The Newtown Hotel and The imperial.
