Rhys Nicholson receives violent homophobic threats on a Melbourne train

Gay comedian Rhys Nicholson has criticised Malcolm Turnbull after receiving homophobic threats on a Melbourne train.

The stand-up comic recounted the incident on Twitter, in which a group of men called him a “faggot” and threatened to “bash him to death”.

“Last night I was sitting on a train into a gig when four people (three twenty somethings and an older guy) got on,” he wrote.

“They were regular looking well-dressed people except one of the young guys had a neck tattoo of a rose.

“When ol’ rose neck saw me he loudly said ‘you can always spot a faggot in Melbourne hey’.

“He paced up and down the carriage for a few minutes and said directly at me ‘if there was no one here I’d bash you. Bash you to death’. This type of fun went on for about 10 minutes.

“As they got off the older guy announced that ‘the Yes vote was allowing schools to teach young boys how to have sex with men’.”

Nicholson then called out Turnbull for the postal survey on marriage equality last year, which he said allowed people to think those kind of opinions were okay.

“This shit is still so common that it barely phased me,” he said. “It should phase me.”

“Thank you Malcolm for leading these horses to water.”

  1. I’m totally with you on this one Rhys. We can directly blame Abbott, Turnbull and the liberals for the horrible destructive postal vote. Horrible stupid people were asked for their opinion and now they won’t shut up. Sad they were 20 year olds. I was hoping these attitudes were dying out with the older generation. Seems not.

  2. And I’ll bet that those cowardly douchebags would’ve shutup if Rhys was in a group of thirty-odd queer folk… maybe I should take a bunch of my friends out to terrorise or bash some random hetros.

  3. So this is all Turbull’s fault?

These people existed for years before the ME vote and will still exist for many years after so I fail to see the connection.

If ME was legislated with no popular vote they would have an even greater reason to carry on like the Neanderthal’s they obviously are.

    • Turdball is a self-aggrandizing twat. He goes from saying he supports ME (human rights equality, btw) to taking Mardi Gras selfies, to tossing LGTBI+ under the bus. Yes, he IS at fault– for being a spineless, flip-flop unable to carry the courage (ha) of his own convictions.

He had a chance to stand up, and he fell onto his spineless backside, instead. That led to the postal BS, which led to even MORE platform time for the worst of the worst bigots to squirm out of the woodwork and THESE vermin were supported by the even worse– the bigoted politico’s, giving them a high-five as they helped to spew the nonsense-based, vitriol.

Yes, Turdball’s fault. He is sickening.
