VAC awards unsung heroes

While The Beatles were the Fab Four, the Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men’s Health Centre (VAC/GMHC) named their community’s -˜Fab Five’ last week for outstanding contributions to the organisation.
In a special awards ceremony, The Fabulous Five Fundraiser Awards recognised five individual or group efforts over the year in raising vital funds for the VAC/GMHC.
VAC/GMHC president Kevin Guiney paid tribute to the often unsung efforts of those who volunteer time, put in great effort and often their own money to help raise funds to assist the VAC’s work on HIV/AIDS.
-œThe Victorian AIDS Council is delighted with the ongoing efforts within the community to raise funds for us, he said.
-œIt makes me happy to know the community spirit supporting the HIV/AIDS cause is still alive.
Over the last year the amount raised between the five totalled over $65,000.
The winners include; the Laird Hotel, awarded for hosting the annual Slave Market and Mooning events and collection tins in the venue; dance party organisers, The Sonic Dolphin Committee; Oz Showbiz Cares/Equality Fight AIDS who raised significant money through collections outlets at theatre performances; and Love Machine for two -˜red night’ fundraisers.
Paul Evans from No Attitude Guys! was awarded a life membership for his almost 20 years of service to the VAC/GMHC and the David Williams Fund.
