Pride set to shine up north

Members of the Sunshine Coast LGBTI community are hoping that this year’s Pride festival can shine just as bright as other celebrations in the state. Entering its fifth year, the Sunshine Coast Pride Festival is shaping 2013 up to be its biggest year yet.

Having only had a one-day festival previously, this year’s festival will take place over three and promises great activities and events to light up the northern coast.

“Based on feedback from previous years, people wanted different types of events – so this year we had sufficient funding to grow it from one event to three events. What once was a small gathering of people back in 2008, has now grown to be a highly anticipated event on the Sunshine Coast calendar that is family friendly,” Pride committee member Paul Ferguson said.

A film festival, bingo night and Fair Day are on offer from February 22-24 and will take place all around the Sunshine Coast from Nambour to Maroochydore.

Originally held later in the year, the 2013 festival has been moved to earlier in the year to capitalise on the holiday period and interstate tourists travelling around the state.
