Losing his locks for a good cause

Openly gay Sydney personal trainer Jon Kok has nervously agreed to shave his head — having grown his hair for the past 12 years — at a special fundraiser for the Leukemia Foundation on February 4.

Supporting the umbrella event World’s Greatest Shave, the long-maned Kok hopes to raise more than $10,000. His ambitious target comes from personal experiences with the disease.

Kok lost a former partner to leukemia last year and his “best fag hag” was re-diagnosed two days before Christmas. He has already received $5000 in donations for the shave and is confident he will crack $10k on the day.

“I’m freaking out about losing my hair which has meant so much to me, but it is a positive step that I hope will show support and raise awareness for a great cause,” Kok told the Star Observer.

A further act of kindness on the day will see Kok’s 12 years of hair live on by being donated to The Princess Charlotte Alopecia Foundation, which provides wigs to sufferers of the autoimmune disease alopecia.

Everyone is invited to attend the shave. The free event includes food and drinks. People are also encouraged to buy tickets in the raffle with a growing list of prizes including a PJs pack from Frankie and Nicole, A Chocolate Bouquet from Lollipop and more.

INFO: At Vision Personal Training, 140a Great North Rd, Five Dock, February 4, 6pm. All donations are greatly appreciated.
