Outdoors group starts northern trek

The Blacktown Outdoors Group, a gay men’s bushwalking, outdoors and social group, will over the next two years walk the entire Great North Walk from Sydney Harbour to Newcastle Harbour.

This will be done in stages, culminating in a dinner in Newcastle to coincide with the final stage of the walk.

On Saturday April 28, the group will start the first stage of the first section of the trek, a walk from Lane Cove River’s headwater at Thornleigh to Sydney Harbour. The group will walk from Thornleigh to Lane Cove Weir (the freshwater section).

A meal and drinks will follow. This is a full day walk (5.5 hours and 14 kilometres at a medium grade of difficulty). The walk is accessible by public transport.

In May the group will complete its walk to the harbour, starting at Lane Cove Weir and finishing at Woolwich.
