Outfielders ready for new season

The sporting folk at Sydney Outfielders gay and lesbian softball league are kicking into gear for another year, with registration for the 2011/12 season now open.

New players can also register in person on Saturday, September 24 from 11am-1pm on the field behind the Alexandria Hotel at 35 Henderson Rd, Alexandria.

“Our league is all about having fun. Regular season games start in October and run through to February, with a few weeks off for the Christmas holidays,” the league’s marketing officer Scott Brunelle said.

“Registration days are a great chance to meet new and old players, have a practice and a giggle. Afterwards, most of us head to the Alexandria Hotel for a drink and a meal.”

“This season we are focused on increasing the social activities for our teams. We are excited to be partnering with our new sponsor, the Alexandria Hotel, who will provide a dedicated venue for post-game celebrations,” league president Dean Hansson said.

“The 14th season for the league promises to be the biggest and best season so far.”

Established in 1998, the Sydney Outfielders is a social slow-pitch softball league open to gay men, lesbians and their gay-friendly friends. Games are played on Tuesday evenings and the league is open to all skill levels.
