Outgames registrations to close

General registrations have now closed for the 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames, with more than 1300 people from 21 countries meeting in Wellington, New Zealand, in just two weeks’ time.

The full menu of Outgames activities is no longer open and no further registrations are being accepted for badminton, dancesport, lawn bowls, running, swimming or tennis.

However, last-minute registrations remain open for bridge, diving, football, golf, hockey, mountain biking, squash, tenpin bowling, triathlon, and volleyball. These will close this Sunday, March 6.

Last-minute conference registrations, and bookings for the arts events in the Outgames registration system, are open until Wednesday, March 9.

The most popular sports at the Outgames look to be swimming (166 participants) and running (110 participants). The human rights conference has already attracted 248 participants from around the world.

Dancesport is also believed to be one to watch.

“Dancesport, with 87 competitors, will be unmissable for spectators,” Outgames co-chair Virginia Hopkins-Burns said.

“Not only is the competition being held in Wellington’s magnificent Town Hall, and featuring amazing costumes and talent, but it is being compered by popular television host Tamati Coffey.”

The dancesport competion is on Sunday, March 13.

The diving competition at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre on March 15 has attracted a number of Australian participants, and is also expected to be popular with spectators.
