Sailing across two decades

The Australian Sailing and Cruising Club (ASCC) is a gay and lesbian club for people interested in boating, sailing and other marine activities.

When the club was formed by a small group of people in 1991, there were few boats and limited crew. Now the club has access to more than 20 boats and skippers, and a crew membership of more than 80.

The club was the first open and proudly gay sporting association in the southern hemisphere to be accredited by a national sporting organisation, the Yachting Association of NSW.

The ASCC maintains a busy program throughout the year, with regular cruises to places like Broken Bay and Port Hacking, regattas, races, water treasure hunts and shoreline picnics in Sydney Harbour.

To celebrate 20 years in operation, the club will hold its 20th anniversary dinner on Friday, July 1. This is an opportunity for all members, past and present, to come together and celebrate this milestone.

The dinner will be held at Doltone House, Pirrama Rd, Pyrmont, with an all-inclusive three-course meal and drinks. There will be prizes awarded and a display of past activities. Past members are invited to bring old club photos and mementos for viewing.

info: To book for the dinner, visit www.ascc.org.au or email [email protected]. Bookings must be made by June 17.
