The story behind ‘It’s Time’

The team behind the GetUp ‘It’s Time’ marriage equality campaign has released a behind-the-scenes look at how the groundbreaking commercial was made.

GetUp and the Motion Picture Company put together the video in the lead-up to the ALP National Conference vote on the party’s platform regarding same-sex marriage.

The first-person love story went viral, receiving international attention for its focus on relationships rather than rights.

The original video has now been seen by over 4 million people on YouTube and was shown on cable and commercial television in Australia during December.

  1. I congratulate the makers of this “ad” and it was great to see that it has been taken up by so many gay websites around the world. In many cases they were glowing about the way it is presented and the message it provides.

From our stand point my partner and I were moved to tears as it was so great to see the romance of the growing relationship between the two men. It was great to see the acceptance being provided by the family and friends. When we came together over 20 years ago this was a lot harder to do in that affection in public would bring more derision, and family was no where near as accepting.

This shows how society has changed for the better, and we are now at a point where one further breakthrough is needed that will deliver equality. This is the provision of the right to marry. My partner and I wait patiently but we can feel it is getting closer. This ad demonstrates that so well…well done!

  2. Thankyou to the producers of this ad.
It shows to the Main stream wider Community that not all Gay men want to be associated with the Scene with not one shot of it in the commercial.
Very happy that Hetro’s can have a different “Insight” that doesn’t include Mardi Gra’s (Feathers in arses and queens dressed up as Vegetimite jars with Sodomite written on it)as seen.
There were no glimpses of Drug taking,end-less one night stands no association what so ever.
And no screaming drag queens, love it.
    Just real men captured.Love it,thankyou
