Some things are best kept to yourself

I’m completely bored. Bored, tired and fed up with reading columns, news stories and blogs where someone makes a statement and then the general population who register a comment decides to go to town on them – without any note of wisdom or graciousness for errors.

I just read an article about the fitness industry and some guy jumps online and two-finger types his thoughts, notably slamming the writer, missing the point of the article completely.

Problem here then is that about 50 other people log in to admonish Mr Two-Finger Typist about his grammar, his spelling and his inability to understand the point of the article and make an intelligent comment. But now, neither have they.

Furthermore, the original writer is probably staring at his coffee cup, despondent after reading the drivel being flung around under his work.

It’s a sign of our social media progress in promoting comments on opinion. It’s a phenomenon from the past few years, growing in trend and creating some really annoying, opinionated trolls.

It’s like when people read the piece, they want to attack the person, in a personal way to make their point — yet they know nothing of the writer.

Sure, some writers have it coming, but it’s far better to push their buttons with a good idea or question.

I wonder if it’s human nature and it has become more prevalent with technology. Letters to Editors sections used to be an interesting read, with planned and thoughtful writing, but now we get every thought, whine and diatribe.

I guess it’s the written form of the ‘no offence, but …’ saying. I hate that form, it’s completely offensive. The contradiction is mind-numbing. I’ve said it a few times, but then usually slap my own face once I’ve said it.

From inane to intellectual, there are clouds of words and comments clogging up forums everywhere. There’s no stopping it. I just wish it was more thoughtful or, at the very least, thought-provoking.
