Transtopia is a new program for gender-questioning people aged 14 to 19.

The 12-month program, which starts on February 29, aims to providing a safe space for gender-questioning young people to be themselves.

Gender Centre manager Phinn Borg said Transtopia, established with the assistance of a grant from the Aurora Group, had been set up due to an increasing demand for support for this age group.

“Over the past two years, more and more parents, schools, school counsellors and gender-questioning youth themselves have been contacting the Centre for specific support for this age group,” Borg said.

In response, the Gender Centre developed a monthly parents group and through that it was established that young people needed a safe space to connect with others in their own age group and to discuss issues important to them.

The monthly meetings will include social activities, information, question sessions and guest speakers, and will involve mentors from their own age group.
