You don’t have to search hard to find thousands of products aimed at fat loss. There are thousands of companies screaming for your cash. “Take three tablets four times a day and lose weight.” Let’s get real — they don’t work.
What if I told you you could achieve these results for real by adding one thing to your day? Resistance training is the key to making any diet more effective by a whopping 40 percent. Even while you sleep.
I am not just talking about weight loss — I am talking specifically about fat loss.
Doing aerobic exercise such as running will help you drop kilos but you will also lose muscle. You want to avoid this because muscle is an incinerator for fat.
The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. Put losing muscle on your Things To Avoid list.
You would be crazy to start a weight loss diet/program without incorporating some form of resistance training into your routine, especially when the results have been tried, tested and documented.
Studies show people who pump iron lose more weight than those who diet and do aerobic exercise alone.
Do not worry about becoming so muscle-bound that you could become a Mr Universe contender. Unless you’re Luke Woods’ training partner, that is.
There are weight-bearing exercises specifically designed for stripping weight. You just need to do them three times a week.
Some great exercises include weights training in the gym or a class like BODYPUMP which is a weights-based group fitness class that will keep you motivated and inspired, especially when accompanied by a great instructor.
Some other things to try are yoga, Pilates or other exercises which use your body as the weights.
Any of the above exercises will work a treat. Remember to use the correct technique when doing any type of exercise.
Most gyms will give you a program free of charge upon joining, which will not only show you which exercises to do but how to do them correctly.
Now all you need to do is get the motivation and start. Summer’s coming and the beach is near.
How’s that for a motivator?
