Brazil: court upgrades civil union

A Brazilian state court has created the country’s first legal same-sex marriage after a couple petitioned to have their civil union upgraded to a marriage.

In May, Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples deserved the same rights and entitlements as married heterosexual couples and found that language in the Constitution and Civil Code discussing marriage as being between “a man and a woman” did not constitute a ban on same-sex marriage.

The court stopped short of legalising same-sex marriage but ruled that notaries should perform civil unions for gay and lesbian couples.

However, on June 27, Sao Paulo state judge Fernando Henrique Pinto ruled that Sergio Kauffman Sousa and Luiz Andre Moresi could convert their civil union into a full marriage.

The state attorney-general’s office advised the court the marriage would be legal. It is unclear if the result sets a national precedent or whether it will be challenged in a higher court.

  1. cheers. Another step in the end of discrimination. And for the catholic church of endless hidden molestation of children – well watch them rant and rave.

their days are numbered. Here in the USA polls consistently show catholics supporting marriage for gays by about 50%. And civil unions 3:1

the problem isn’t the catholic people, its a Vatican heirarchy that for so many reasons should be brought before the ICC for their crimes against humanity.

It was they, who gave the world the hatred of the Jews, which hitler, a still not EXcommunicated catholic leveraged to gain election. And 55 million died for the church whose smokescreen is protecting life.

I used to think that Goebbels created the comment – if you tell a lie often enough and outrageous enough, it will be seen as the truth.

Now we can guess that he came up with that by listening to the vAtican.

http://www.nobeliefs.com/nazis.htm will show you why the church was untouched during the war in Europe.

btw, there were good people, Like Roncalli and the Polish pope, who saved some Jews. But for the most part, the catholic church bears the guilt of the death of 55 million in the worlds worst conflagration.

and hitler, born and baptised catholic in Austria in 1888 has yet to be EXcommunicated.
