From the diving pool to the cabaret stage

MOST books go from book to big screen, but in the case of Matthew Mitcham’s biography Twists and Turns, it’s about to be given a ukelele once-over and turned into a national touring cabaret show

Starting in Perth in February 2014 and then making its way to Sydney for the Mardi Gras season, the openly-gay Olympic gold medalist says in the show’s pozible.com fund-raising video that the show:

“Pretty much sums up my life to date, I hope to inspire some of you who might be falling under the pressures of self-doubt and depression like I was, to give you the message that if I can overcome addiction and dark times, you can you.”

“The show won’t all be gloom and doom,’ he adds. ‘There will be a few surprises and some great songs.”

Mitcham’s ukelele and singing talents have entertained thousands on his YouTube channel and tells us in his video that his “hobby has turned into something a little more serious”.
