Freezone spikes opposition

The UTS social volleyball competition finals at Sydney Boys High School wrapped up the season for Freezone’s most successful year ever.

Five teams reached the quarter finals after nine weeks of rounds during the spring season.

The ACON Safe Sets White, playing in B2 Division, surprised themselves more than anyone with the success of the season. The team came from seventh place on the ladder to narrowly secure a finals berth over the last two rounds in the season.

We hate winning that first set, said Mick Jansen, one of the team’s captains. If there is a hard way, we always seem to find it.

The side went down to the top ranked team in the quarter final.

In A Division the ACON Safe Sets Red were defeated by Chilli Cha Cha. The elimination of one Freezone team by another saw the supporters ranks swell for the grand final.

Nailbiting finishes in the B1 Div saw the Freespirits and Edok play off for the gold and silver positions. The heat of the night and the hard-fought games saw Edok defeat Freespirits 2:0.
With Chilli Cha Cha defeating all comers it was a long arduous game for their first place. The final score 3:2 was well deserved.

Freezone Volleyball polished off the season with a strong finish.
