Melbourne arts and cultural festival Midsumma is calling on volunteers to help operate three licensed bars on Carnival Day on January 15.

Organisers are looking for “happy, fast and nice” people to help out at the event which attracts thousands of revellers.

Volunteers will need a valid Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate and be able to volunteer four hours of their time.

“We really need all hands in deck to make it work,” Midsumma chair Lisa Watts said.

The move to use volunteers at this year’s Carnival aims to help the Festival’s bottom line.

In the past the festival has entered into profit-sharing arrangements with commercial bar operators which have proven unsuccessful.

Those interested need to register their details at the Midsumma website.

Carnival Day is on from 11am – 6pm.
