It’s showtime

Normally I am running around on a weekend like a headless chook but last weekend I decided to pull my finger out and go and see a few of the new shows that have sprung up around town.

First cab off the rank was Razzle Dazzle at the Newtown Hotel on Friday, starring Chelsea, Amelia, Kitty and a very young dancer.

We were treated to a visual spectacular, with everyone dancing up a storm on the postage-stamp-size stage. The girls soon had the crowd screaming for more -¦ well, as much as the Newtown crowds scream. They are known as a non-clapping crowd but still love the shows so who knows?

My next stop was the brand new Kylie show on Saturday night at the Midnight Shift. (Incidentally, my Kylie show at the Palace will be staying on Saturday nights, not moving to Thursdays as reported last week.)

This show is an extravaganza, but what else would we expect from this DIVA-winning cast? It stars Amelia, Joyce, Ashley, Marcello, Marcus and reigning Entertainer of the Year Minnie Cooper making her first appearance in the Queen cast.

The big budget show had me standing up the back wide-eyed in excitement the whole time. It features huge backpacks, a butterfly and a huge rideable penis -“ now that’s got your attention -“ and all the boys are wearing practically nothing for the whole show. Trust me when I say, you have to see it.

Still needing a drag fix on Sunday, I decided to take myself off to Arq to see Mitzi’s new show, Lie Back And Think Of England, starring Mitzi, Wyness, Farren, Alex and the always-sexy Marcello.

To say Mitzi did a bloody great job would be an understatement. The show is a tribute to the fabulous TV program Little Britain and if you love the television show you will love this show. I have a very soft spot for one character, Marjorie Dawes, and I was left giggling in delight.

With characters such as Vicki Pollard, Mitzi proves that practice makes perfect -“ god, she really must have some free time on her hands. Farren Heit’s Anne was so realistic that it had the audience hooting.

My bed was looking very good by the end of the weekend. If you love to watch great shows and you can’t possibly get to see one of mine, there’s three of the best to hit stages around town.

Also, I’ve to let slip Divastated will be opening their brand new show in just a couple of weeks. I have heard they will be bringing all of our favourite superheroes to the Midnight Shift stage, so stay tuned.
