Law firm gives to BGF

Shine Lawyers presented a $5000 donation to the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF) last week in a ceremony in Sydney. As part of its recent brand launch, Shine ran an online competition giving people the chance to win $5000 for their chosen charity and an iPad for themselves. Entrants had to say in 50 words or less why it’s important to stand your ground. The winner was one of more than 320 entrants and stumbled on the competition while searching for legal support options.

“I worked in a care service where staff routinely mistreated the residents. I spoke up about it and that cost me my job and any chance of future employment with the organisation, but at least the mistreatment of those residents stopped,” the winning entry.

The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation provides direct financial and practical assistance to people living with HIV in New South Wales.

“This $5000 donation will go a long way to helping so many of our clients with medical support and provide the skills and tools to help them shine in their lives,” CEO David Riddell (pictured) said.

Shine Lawyers managing director Simon Morrison said the entry epitomised the type of courage that the competition set out to showcase.

“We had so many fantastic entries, but this man’s entry stood out because he spoke up to right a wrong and protect people from harm, at great personal risk,” he said.

“That’s an incredibly brave thing to do and it’s something we see many of our clients undertaking every day.”
