Penny scores points on parenting
Penny Wong may be the country’s top brass on finance matters but the lesbian mum has been polled as the most trusted babysitter among Australia’s top politicians, a new survey revealed.
The survey of 1,133 people found three in 10 people preferred the finance minister to look after their kids ahead of Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and 11 other top politicians.
Wong and her partner Sophie Allouache gave birth to their first child, Alexandra in December 2011.
The CoreData survey found a quarter of the survey respondents said they would not trust any of the 14 politicians to look after their children.
About one in 10 gay couples have children in Australia, according to the 2011 Census.
Eighty per cent of children living in families with same-sex attracted parents were under 15 years old.
