Sydney Stingers get fundraising

Sydney’s gay and lesbian water polo club, the Sydney Stingers, is seeking community support to help them send a team to the Cologne Gay Games in August.

“The Stingers have been a regular fixture on the Sydney lesbian and gay sporting community since October 2001 and over the last year have seen a resurgence of membership,” Stingers media spokesman Rodd Messent said.

“This is of course great to see but with that comes additional costs of not only all the playing equipment but running the club, pool hire costs and additional expenses of sending club members to the Games later this year.”

To overcome the situation the club has organised a fundraising committee and is asking the community to help out by buying raffle tickets over the Mardi Gras period.

The boys will be selling tickets with the chance to win an Aussie Boys in-store voucher valued at $1000, VIP season tickets to the Brandenburg Orchestra valued at $900 and a weekend for two in either Sydney or Melbourne.

Club sponsor Aussie Boys, who are providing club bathers and a full team strip including shorts and T-shirts, will help sell raffle tickets. Club members will also sell raffle tickets at Fair Day.

Aussie Boys and the Sydney Stingers have designed a co-branded T-shirt and singlet. The club will receive a share of profits from the sale of the garments. The merchandise is available at the Oxford St store.
