The Bard tops up on testosterone
The director of Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Craig Ilott, is back with a testosterone-pumped version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare’s R&J is an adaptation of the classic script by Joe Calarco. It explores the tyrannical environment of a Catholic boys’ school, where four students decide to stage Romeo and Juliet for their own pleasure.
As these naughty young men discover the notion of secrets and prohibited love, they immerse themselves deeply into the roles.
It’s a show that unashamedly explores adolescent sexuality and doesn’t steer away from controversy.
Shakespeare’s R&J opens at the Riverside Theatres in Parramatta on Thursday 7 August and will star Ben Gerrard, Paul-William Mawhinney, Will O’Mahony and Andrew Ryan.
