Paradise pickings

AIDS Awareness Week 2012 will be held between November 27 and December 3 this year and there are lots of things happening in and around the Mid North Coast during this time.

On Friday, December 1, United Flag Social Club will be holding their second dance, entitled United Flag goes to Hollywood. It’s sure to be a fabulous night so make sure that you check out their Facebook page for more details and how to purchase your tickets. ACON will be attending this event on World AIDS Day and will be encouraging people to purchase a red ribbon in support of local programs that benefit people living with HIV.

If you are in Port Macquarie around lunch time on December 1, ACON will have volunteers on the streets selling Red ribbons, so keep an eye out for them. The following morning, head down to the Jetty Foreshores Markets in Coffs Harbour where ACON will have a health promotion stall for World AIDS Day. There will also be another stall on Monday, December 3 in the Coffs City Centre where you can purchase red ribbons or a fabulous World AIDS Day calendar to show your support for people living with HIV.

On Saturday, December 8, three LGBTIQ social groups – Coastal Castaways, Out ‘N Hastings, and CoastOut – are joining forces for the first time to bring you a combined Mid North Coast Summer Ball. The event, which is being advertised as a ‘Christmas Party to remember’, is hosted by Sandy Bottom and will be held at Wauchope.

Three DJ’s will be keeping the music pumping and the party happening. The event is BYO and there is accommodation nearby for anyone who would like to stay the night. To encourage safe travels, a bus will bring people out from Port Macquarie for a small fee. Tickets for the dance are $25 online at www.coastout.com.au or can be purchased at The Bean Bar in Taree, The Paper Girls in Port Macquarie and Ice Graphics in Coffs Harbour up until November 30 or tickets on the night will be $30. For more details about the event or how to purchase tickets just visit one of the groups’ Facebook pages.

For information about any groups, services, organisations or community events in the local Coffs Harbour area, contact Anabell at ACON on (02) 6651 6017 or [email protected].
