Gay rally ban upheld
The Moscow City Court has upheld the local government’s refusal to authorise a gay rally, the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI) reports.
The court dismissed an appeal filed by local gay rights activist Nikolai Alexyev, who had asked the court to order the Moscow City Hall not to ban the right to hold rallies.
The rally was due to be held in downtown Moscow on December 7.
When refusing to authorise the rally, the city hall said it could have resulted in clashes between the participants and individuals who are against such events.
A number of citisens are also said to have submitted complaints against the event, according to RAPSI.
A Moscow government representative said in court that such rallies contradict religious and ethical standards.
