Mardi Gras Q+A: Belinda Lemon

Mardi Gras Q+A: Belinda Lemon

What is your event about?

It is a tribute to one of our all-time favourite performers -“ Bette Midler. It is a great fun night out, it is entertaining and we pay tribute to over 30 years of music as part of Bette Midler’s career. This year we are adding Bette Midler’s infamous Harlettes to the show -¦ so it is no longer all about me!

Why Bette Midler?

Her diversity, her passion and the exciting career that she has had make her perfect for a tribute show. She’s an amazing person who I respect and whose music I enjoy -¦ and happily, I look a lot like her.

What are you looking forward to seeing in the festival (apart from your own show)?

After performing at the opening of Midsumma with Dolly, I am looking forward to seeing her show [Dolly Downunder]. Also, Enda Markey’s new show [The Mangina Monologues] looks like it will be very funny so I’ll be at that.

What’s your favourite Mardi Gras memory?

Performing at last year’s launch in Hyde Park was definitely a highlight. My funniest memory is walking dripping wet in very high heels in last year’s parade desperately trying to keep up with my car.

What does MG mean to you?

It is a fun and unique time of year in Sydney and I have always enjoyed the spirit of Mardi Gras -“ and now for me it also means a very busy time of year.

And a special extra question, just for you: will you be going to see that other Bette Midler in April?

Absolutely. Tickets booked -“ can’t wait. (I’ll be waiting in the wings in case an understudy is needed!)

Outrageously Divine: A Tribute To Bette Midler is playing at @Newtown, 52 Enmore Rd, Newtown, on Thursday 10 February, Friday 11 February and Sunday 13 February at 8pm. Phone 9550 3666 for bookings.
