Cassie drags out the talent

She’s been labelled the next Lady Gaga and her debut single Like It Loud just went gold -” the future is looking bright for Australian songbird Cassie Davis.

She pranced into the interview room with Gwen Stefani heels, knee-high socks and a pair of the longest fake lashes I’ve ever seen on a real woman.

It’s very dragalicious, Davis squealed.

I love make-up and dressing and fake eyelashes. I love people who say they wear too much make-up. I love Pamela Anderson and all those women who are classic blonde bombshells.

The quirky Perth girl got her break as an intern at a recording studio which inspired her to establish her own recording label with her sister. With many trips to and from LA, the 23-year-old now finds peace in Sydney.

Thanks to her songwriting abilities, multi-instrumental skills and knowledge of production, she was quickly picked up by Sony BMG.

A lot of it is being lucky. Also, doing the production and making the beats and doing it for other people helps as usually people have a producer to produce their songs or maybe get them to write their songs as well but that’s part of the industry I love -” I think that’s what stood out a bit, she said.

Now what about this next Lady Gaga title?

I heard people say that. This is what I think -¦ I used to have a fringe and everyone was saying blonde hair fringe Lady Gaga, because I don’t think our music sounds that much alike, Davis said.

Her second single Differently was released last week. Davis described it as a single the gay community is going to love and relate to. She’s even told been told by fans that it could be remixed as a massive gay anthem.

It’s just about being who you are. Growing up in school I never quite fitted in -” maybe because I wear the most bizarre clothing. I got to the point where I said -˜this is me and I do things differently’, she said.

If anyone has been in that position where they have been not accepted for being the way they are, I think they can relate to it. It’s saying -˜OK this is me and I’m strong in who I am and I don’t care’.
