One little word

One little word

Sex. One little word, and yet one massive subject. It’s our strongest instinct, our driving force. It’s all around us, on our TVs and computer screens, in our books and magazines, on our streets and beaches, in our bars and clubs.
Sex whispers seductively from every corner of our lives, promising pleasure, euphoria and the chance to transcend our everyday lives, even for just a few brief moments.
As humans, we’re hardwired to seek out pleasure -” to experience those blissful moments that take us beyond the everyday and allow us to expand and reach new heights. It’s no coincidence that one of the world’s most popular drugs is named with this in mind. We crave ecstasy. It’s no surprise that sex -” even when it’s plain average or routine -” is so popular.

But there’s a problem. Our lives today are so busy, so stressful and so fast that we often miss out on those pure, ecstatic moments. We connect via email or text instead of emotion or touch. In our fast-paced, everything-disposable world, we strive for more and more -˜stuff’. Yet something is missing.
The more we consume, the more we crave. We try to fill that empty space with quantity instead of quality. And life loses its meaning.
Over the coming months, I’ll be exploring sex and sexuality in all its forms. I’m a massage therapist specialising in tantric bodywork -” giving me a unique insight into sexuality and the healing power of nurturing, sensual touch.
There are often places in our bodies where we’re -˜shut down’, either through shame and embarrassment from conditioning, or through fear around STDs, abuse or negative sexual experiences. And much of the time, we’re also trapped in our sexuality -” stuck in a pattern of attitude and behaviour, using sex as a reward, rushing towards climax without fully enjoying the ride.
It’s my goal to offer some insights, advice and practical exercises to help us find a different perspective on sex -” and from there, to experience more meaning, joy and connection in our sex lives.
