A Pet Shop Boys ballet

The Pet Shops Boys will release the score to The Most Incredible Thing – their very first ballet – on March 22.

Band members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe collaborated with choreographer Javier De Frutos to create the ballet for Sadler’s Wells – one of Britain’s leading dance theatres.

“This is a very exciting project to be part of,” the Boys said. “In the past we have written dance music so to write music for a ballet seems like a logical development.”

The Most Incredible Thing is based on the similarly titled Hans Christian Anderson story about a mythical kingdom and debuts in London on March 17.

The score was recorded late last year in Poland with the Wrocław Score Orchestra conducted by Dominic Wheeler.

After its initial UK run, Neil and Chris hope to take The Most Incredible Thing to other countries in 2012.

It is not the first time the lads have dabbled in the arts scene. Their 1999 album Nightlife was rumoured to be a collection of songs they were planning to use for a rock opera about an older man’s coming out.

It famously features the pair’s duet with Australia’s favourite pop princess Kylie Minogue, In Denial.

Let’s hope Australia is on their list!
