Facebook co-founder to marry boyfriend

One of the co-founders of social networking site Facebook plans to marry his long-term boyfriend.

Chris Hughes, 27, plans to marry Sean Eldridge, according to reports in the New York Post.

As well as his involvement in Facebook – Hughes was Mark Zuckerberg’s roommate at Harvard – he has been dubbed “the kid who made Obama president” for organising the now president’s social networking site, My.BarackObama.com, during the historic 2008 campaign.

Hughes is now the an Entrepreneur in Residence at General Catalyst Partners, a Cambridge, Mass., venture capital firm

According to the New York Post, Eldridge, the political director of Freedom To Marry, announced his engagement to Hughes before guests at a New York City Reception in support of Freedom To Marry.

“This is very timely for Chris and I to have you here tonight to celebrate marriage and work on marriage,” Eldridge is reported to have announced to guests.

“We got engaged two weeks ago, so there is a real sense of urgency.

“We were in Thailand in a hotel room in the north. We were delayed after two days in the snowstorm and Chris got down on one knee and proposed. It was very traditional and very sweet.

“We’ve been together for five years now.”

They have yet to set a date and say they will try to wait until gay marriage is legal in New York.
