Gaga getting poetic

Lady Gaga has opened up about her eagerly anticipated new album, calling it “poetic” and “innovative”.

BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat spoke to the singer backstage at one of her sold out UK concerts and asked her how the album is progressing.

“The new single is going to come out sometime in February and shortly after that I’ll release the album.”

“It’s finished and all. I’m just fine-tuning everything. It’s kind of like the post-operative stage of the album. I’ve already done the full heart surgery. I’m just sewing myself back up again.”

As for her new sound, Lady Gaga described the album as more poetic than her Grammy-nominated offering Fame Monster and raved about her melodies and evolution as an artist.

“I think that lyrically it’s more poetic. It’s, in a very strange way, the marriage of electronic music with these sort of major, epic – I dare to even say metal, rock ‘n’ roll, pop, anthemic style – melodies with really, really sledge-hammering dance beats. It’s definitely the most innovative of all the music I’ve done so far.”

The scariest woman in pop also spilled the beans about her soon to be released single Born This Way, which is rumoured to be a self-acceptance anthem in the vein of Ke$ha’s We R Who We R.

“[Born This Way] was really written by the fans. I mean, they really wrote the music for me because every night they’re funnelling so much into me. So I wrote it for them. Born This Way is all about little monsters and me, Mother Monster.”

Sounds promising! While we wait for that future smash to drop, have another look at the diva’s Grammy nominated hit “Telephone” (below).
