The return of Darren Hayes

The return of Darren Hayes

After an absence of four years, Darren Hayes has finally released a new single – with his long awaited fourth studio album due in October.

Secret Codes and Battleships remains true to the former Savage Garden singer’s pop roots but it tackles darker and deeper themes than the usual floorfillers about partying and dancing we’re used to hearing from mainstream artists.

The first taste of the 39-year-old’s new sound is the catchy lead single Talk Talk Talk, which was co-written and produced by Swede Carl Falk. It’s a cute electro-pop jam that cover’s new ground musically but will appeal to fans of upbeat hits Step Into The Light and Pop!ular.

The video for Talk Talk Talk was directed by Richard Cullen – the singer’s husband of two years – in collaboration with animator and film makers Andrew Philip and Gavin Elder.

You can see the full clip on Darren’s website today (click here) or check out a 30-second preview below.

It’s been a while since Mr Hayes had a big hit in Australia (2005’s So Beautiful) – do you think this can return him to the top of the charts?
