AS Season Four of Starting From… Now! begins pre-production, the web series’ creator is seeking community support via a crowdfunding campaign.

Series director and writer Julie Kalceff said that the focus of the show was never about sexuality and what it means to be a lesbian, but more an ensemble of strong and confident women who happen to be lesbians.

“From the beginning, the intention was to portray complex female characters who happened to be lesbians,” she said.

“The series is about what it means to be human and the diversity of issues we’re confronted with on a daily basis… It just happens to be set in the LGBTI community.”

Viewed in over 227 countries and boasting over 10 million views in the first year of its release, Starting From… Now!  was created as a direct response to the lack of diversity on Australian TV.

The first three seasons explores topics such as familial estrangement, drug and alcohol abuse, infertility, and the desire to start a family in a lesbian relationship.

According to Kalceff, season four is tipped to cast its net even further as fans eagerly await the next instalment.

“It’s time Australia jumped on board the series that has captured the heart of the US, France and the UK,” she said of the show.

The cast includes Bianca Bradey (Wyrmwood), Lauren Orrell, and various cameos from Australian acting stars including Strictly Ballroom’s Heather Mitchell.
