ACON: update your details

ACON is encouraging social housing applicants to ensure their contact details are provided to Housing NSW before May 1 and kept up-to-date afterwards.

Changes will be made to the NSW Housing Register — the waiting list for social housing applicants — on May 1. From this date, all applicants will be required to ensure their contact details are up-to-date or risk having their applications closed and their names removed from the register.

Previously, people who lost contact with Housing NSW had their applications suspended and then reinstated and backdated to an earlier waiting time when they reconnected with the agency.

To be re-listed, people will have to complete a new application form. The applicant’s waiting time will start from the date of the new application unless the applicant has grounds for an exemption.

ACON is monitoring the impacts of the change on LGBTI people and is interested in hearing the experiences of people having to re-list on the register.

Housing NSW will write to all current social housing applicants, outlining the changes.
