Headquarters waits amyl probe

Headquarters sex venue owners will likely face criminal charges for the distribution of amyl nitrate, police indicated this week.

The sex venue on Crown St was raided last Thursday by Surry Hills Licensing Police after a tip-off.
Surry Hills Commander Donna Adney said officers seized alcohol and liquids believed to be amyl nitrate, known as poppers.

Nobody was charged immediately after the search but that’s because it is practice for us to get the substances analysed to make sure they are what we think they are, she said.

If it is amyl, and we believe it is, then there will be subsequent charges.

The manager of Headquarters told Sydney Star Observer the matter was private, and would be dealt with in court.

Adney also had a warning for suppliers of prohibited substances on Oxford St.

Possession and supply of amyl isn’t something you can do unless you’re a doctor. If you’re able to walk into any old shop on Oxford St and you’re able to purchase amyl, you could be committing an illegal act.

We can’t do random inspections. It’s important that people do come to us with this sort of information.

  1. Don’t worry decent people are sick and tired of people who don’t take care of themselves and then expect everyone else to pick up after them!

  2. Personally I think that all drugs/booze/amyl/ciggarettes need to be legalised and all people who indulge in them sign a waiver that says if they have any health problems they are on their own.

I’m sick and tired of decent people having to pay for everyone else’s excess!

And yes, I’d add that waiver in to unhealthy foods and sky diving/round-the-world-yachting too!

  3. Dangerous or not(from my own personal use I do not believe this),I reserve the right to choose,I have sold alcohol for 25 years as a living and seen the consequences of over use,I have also seen the pleasure it brings with responsible use, take responsibility for your own decisions but don’t force them on other people

  4. Oh for goodness sake Oliver, grow up!!! So Amyl Nitrates damages your brain cells???? Do you drink Alcohol, that ‘legal’ drug, that causes alot more damage to your brain, Organs and skin than Amyl, and also causes unmeasurable violence, and relationship breakdowns. When was the last time you heard of the Emergency rooms being full of Gay boys on Amyl on a Satuday night??
Go and play with your Barbie doll.

  5. Prince of Wales Accident and Emergency department is overflowing every weekend with people who have either overdosed on alcohol or had a bad reaction to a drug. It’s not much fun to be vomited on and physically assualted by people that you are trying to help.

I guess if it’s cool and glamorous to do drugs (or overdose on alcohol) then it’s cool to deal with the consequences yourself without clogging up the hospital system and trying to beat up hospital staff.

  6. Oliver…( ARM CHAIR SPECIALIST ON ALL THINGS GAY LOL)
Stick to subjects you know something about..such as rearranging your crochet doillies over at dreary ole Kirribilli…..the closest you get to the darlinghurst culture is probably passing through it on your way to your needlepont lessons in Rose Bay.

  7. Just a quick look on “Wikipedia” for the article on “Poppers” gives some basic information on the health risks involved with Amyl Nitrate if anyone’s interested.

The use of Amyl in combination with Viagra/Levitra/Sildenafil can critically lower blood pressure causing fainting, loss of consciousness and possible death.

Amyl also raises intraocular pressure and can occasionally result in glaucoma of the eyes causing blindness.

Other side effects include: burns on skin where spilt, loss of consciousness, and headaches.

While there is little evidence of significant hazard from the inhalation of Amyl, there are risks involved (see above). I guess it all boils down to the fact that we’re all adults if you don’t want any consequences from Amyl, don’t use it.

  8. Oliver are you old enough to vote ?
Amyl nitrate has been around ever since Captain Cook sailed up the coast all those long years ago.
In 1973 when I first arrived on the gay scene as a 17 year old teenager the boys were sniffing Amyl.
I think I can rightly say it has already escalated,if that is the case.
Please think before opening your mouth to speak crap in future !

“James-¦since you are such an expert on the subject of amyl
Have you ever been fucked up the arse without amyl?
    If not why not ?”

I’m not an expert on amyl nitrate, but I know enough about drugs to confidently say that they pose a health risk.

Not sure what the other part of your comment is supposed to mean.

  10. Chris, I was not a teenager 30 years ago. It may surprise you that todays youth dont dream about one day moving to Oxford Street and experimenting with Amyl. You can be Gay anywhere, any suburb you like. It shows youve lived on Oxford St far too long.

  11. this has got nothing to do with anti-gay sentiments. it has to do with illegal drugs. the two shouldn’t be mixed up.

  12. So sad to hear.. HQ is the most cleanest well layout dry sex venue in Sydney! – Leave those boys alone!!

As Sabrina would say.. BOYS BOYS BOYS! IM LOOKING FOR A GOODTIME!

  13. oliver…of course you do agree with james.!..lol why am i not surprized. By the way James and Oliver i do not use amyl on a daily basis…i’m a top ..lol(do you know what that is )?

re the ridiculous statement’ before it escalates’… amyl usage has been part of gay male culture since i was a teenager( over 30 years ago !)…its usage by my observation has never , nor will it, escalate’.

As for the question of who squealed… probably Oliver ,James or someone of their ilk…but not until they had had a good ole time doing all the things they criticise here…thats what hypocrites do don’t they ?

  14. well the police need to raid-all the sex shops in sydney 357 city steam kens of kens bodyline arrows kingsteam-cant just pick on one!!

  15. Rob …..lol..great point and delivered with humour!

James…since you are such an expert on the subject of amyl

Have you ever been fucked up the arse without amyl?

    If not why not ?

  16. Chris, if society followed your example, we would be a veri Insane society and there would not be a safe haven for anybody. I agree with James! The police have the right to put a stop to this before it escalates!

  17. For god’s sake don’t the police have better things to do like chase gay and lesbian haters and bashers! Funny I had awesome sex with a copper the other week and we got our noses stuck right in our bottles of amyl!

  18. Chris – if there’s no risk, and it’s so enjoyable, then I take it you use it on a daily basis. If not, why not?

  19. So sniffing amyl causes long term psychological instability
..lol…so James show us the studies and science around this
    rediculous statement.

  20. Anyone who is willing to risk their long term psychological stability by sniffing amyl nitrate is a bloody idiot. Same goes for ecstacy users. I’m glad the cops were on to this.

  21. . . . . . read a little about the instantaneous permanent damage to brain cells from inhaling nitrates.

  22. Err, amyl nitrate products are not sold over the counter in Australia. Substitute and legal products, that people might mistakenly call amyl, are sold over the counter. I guess hassling the gay community over nothing beats hassling the straight community over like, what to do about lecherous footballers, any old day.

  23. What a relief! Its great news that there are no longer any assaults, break-ins, purse snatchings, shoplifting homophobic abuse, spitting, vomiting, vandalism, public urination or littering going anywhere in inner Sydney.

After all, this sort of raid would only be happening if Surry Hills police had nothing better to do.

Or, after last year’s outcry over their indifference to anti-gay attacks, perhaps our honorable constabulary are trying to put us back in our place?

  24. oh sure Oliver….the whole population of Sydney will be running around sniffing amyl if not for the actions of the NSW police raiding Headquarters!!!!!

  25. You’d think the police would have higher priority things to do, like deaal with crime where there aare victims. The stupidity and ineptitude of the NSW Police only seeems to be getting worse.
