Just add disco

Mardi Gras will add a magical new area to the burgeoning list of venues at this year’s post-parade Party.

Named La Discothèque for its unique blend of Euro-trash, original retro and disco decor, the area is set to boast superb DJs and live performers from around the world such as NY drag sensation Peppermint Gummybear, Australian Idol favourite Roshani Priddis and Swedish singing superstar Emilia De Poret.

La Discothèque will be a new hotspot amidst the musically-varied venues of Mardi Gras Party 2009. Located next to The Forum, this grand marquee -“ lovingly plastered with disco paraphernalia -“ is bound to be a crowd favourite with its high-energy original retro from well known Sydney DJs Jake Kilby, Justin Scott and David Hiscock.

The retro space will feature live performances from sensational guests that are bound to entertain all night. As the night kicks on so do the shows with drag kings and queens taking the stage and continuing to entertain.  Look out for Spiceworld, Carmen Geddit, Kiki Fetch and the kings in -˜Fake That’.

Recent Australian Idol finalist Roshani Priddis (pictured), who was a crowd favourite for her compelling shows and excitable personality, will be performing on the night.

Mardi Gras has become an annual iconic Australian event and I am proud to be a part of the event this year, Priddis said.

Being a child of the late -˜80s I missed out totally on the sexiness of -˜70s disco, hence I’m so excited to be performing in the new disco room for Mardi Gras.

Priddis has had enormous success for a 20-year-old, performing her trademark style of cabaret and R&B around Australia and New York, as well as making it through to the top six in the 2008 series of Australian Idol. Her show in La Discoteque will be one of the most memorable of the night.

La Discotheque also hosts an exciting billing of international talent at this year’s Mardi Gras Party. New York drag superstar Peppermint Gummybear in a show that will have you singing and laughing with her, as she shows you the voice and bodacious dance moves that have made her a drag icon around the world.

Peppermint has held court in New York institutions such as Boysroom, Limelight and Tunnel, as well as being a renowned performer on Fire Island. She has also released singles Servin’ It Up and Thought Ya Knew, and has a repertoire of pop and Broadway songs certain to stun.

Swedish pop superstar Emilia De Poret has performed around the world for royal families, in world-famous clubs and on major TV Shows. Now she makes her first appearance at Mardi Gras, gracing the crowds with her powerful voice and high energy songs such as Swedish number one Pick Me Up and international hit I Can.

These incredible artists will all take the stage 7th March 2009 at the Mardi Gras Party at the Entertainment Quarter, for a series of shows that are bound to be as fun and uplifting as they are breathtaking. Joining the electro – rock venue The Forum, the anthem filled RHI, the progressive Hordern Pavilion, and the dirty tribal sounds of The Dome; La Discothèque adds a unique flavour to this year’s Party and is bound to be one of the busiest and most entertaining places to be on the night!
