Playing it safe in Copenhagen

With the 2009 World Outgames in Copenhagen in full swing this week, so is the safe sex message for footloose and fancy free Outgames athletes.

International organisation, STOP AIDS announced recently it would be handing out 25,000 free condoms during the games.

Funded by the Copenhagen City Council and STOP AIDS, athletes and supporters will be able to pick up free condoms and lube from special collection points, when the mood strikes.

It would not be possible for us to offer free condoms… without the support from the Copenhagen City Council -“ and certainly not during World Outgames with over 10,000 participants and tourists visiting Copenhagen, STOP AIDS executive director Klaus Legau said.

The Copenhagen Outgames started last Saturday, July 25 with 5000 athletes registered to compete.
A favourite story during the regular Olympics Games is the display of bedroom athleticism amongst some of the world’s finest bodies including the amount of condoms churned through in the athletes village.

Much pride is still held over the fact that during the randy Sydney Olympics, the athlete’s condom supply ran out.

Beijing organisers took the hint and supplied 100,000 condoms for 10,500 athletes during the 2008 games.

To compare numbers, Outgames athletes have access to around five condoms apiece as opposed to 10 apiece for regular Olympians -“ fuel to the argument, always be prepared.

info: The World Outgames runs until August 2.
