The 2010 National Gay Dads Conference, to be held September 18-19 at the Richmond Town Hall in Melbourne, is a celebration of gay fatherhood that’s expected to draw men from around the nation. Photo media artist Stelios Papadakis, seduced by his Greek Orthodox religion, has reconstructed the Eikona for his latest exhibition. Eikones comes from the ancient Greek word for images. Metaphorically, Eikones can also mean the descriptions — in ancient times it referred to a description of any thing, person, or experience. DJ BATTLE
Raising the bar for future international DJ competitions, Red Bull Thre3Style is due to set down at the Oxford Art Factory on Saturday, September 18 for an exhibition taster. The taster will see five battles start the Red Bull Thre3Style party in Australia. Judging the battles will be music scene experts Ashley Anderson of Katalyst, Trent Grimes from Ministry Of Sound, inthemix’s Tim Hardaker and Dan Zilber of FBi Radio 94.5. It kicks off at 8pm and it’s all free.
ISLAND ART
A.R.P. artist residency program has unveiled its first annual public exhibition on Cockatoo Island this spring, Unknown Territories: Between a Rock and a Hard Place. Eight Sydney artists were invited to use studios as part of a residency program. The resulting artworks will be showcased throughout Cockatoo Island. The exhibition runs until October 4.

EURO-TRASHED
Looking at the gay porn boom in the Czech Republic and the birth of new labels such as Bel Ami, the documentary All Boys introduces us to some of the players in this trade, including the young working class men (mostly straight) who found a way out of poor quality industrial jobs by performing for the cameras, and the foreign producers who moved in to take advantage of their eagerness and abundance. It’s playing on September 17 at the Dendy Newtown.

From the land of the rising sun and the home of extreme action game shows come two new offerings, Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuke, screening 7.30pm Sunday, September 19 on SBS Two. A new work that celebrates the colourful, and often dark, history of Sydney opens at Hurstville Entertainment Centre’s Marana Auditorium on Saturday, September 18 – Leviathan, based on John Birmingham’s award-winning book Leviathan: The Unauthorised Biography of Sydney. TRANSPORT TALES
