Happy Mardi Gras

Happy Mardi Gras

I hope everyone had a restful January. With such a big Mardi Gras season ahead I will need a few weeks of sleep after it all to recover if I actually make it to everything I hope to attend.
To help plan your festival and not miss any events, you can pick up a free Mardi Gras guide and a film festival guide from any regional ACON office.
One of the best ways to experience Mardi Gras events is as a volunteer. Most events, especially large ones like the Mardi Gras film festival and the parade, depend on the efforts of an army of volunteers in order to be a success. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and keeps the festival running and growing from year to year.
If you call for information, why not ask if there are opportunities to get involved at the same time? Even seemingly small things like packing safe-sex packs at ACON will go a long way towards bringing together a spectacular 2010 Mardi Gras.
Healthy weight week at ACON Illawarra was a great success. Carrying on from such a fun and encouraging day, we have a walking group on Mondays and Wednesdays every week from 6.30am. For those who like a bit more intensity, there will be a running group starting at the same time on Fridays. Please call the Illawarra office on 4226 1163 for more details.
I’ll be volunteering at the film festival as usual this year, so keep an eye out around Oxford St, come say hello and find out more about what’s happening in the Southern Region.
Have fun, play safe, travel safe (and remember to pack your condoms and lube) and until next time, Happy Mardi Gras!
